Need help estimating formulas for landscape coverage?  Here are some simple ways to help you:

To figure how much product for your area:  area (in cubic yards)

CUBIC YARD MULCH COVERS AN AVERAGE REMULCH AT 100 SQUARE FEET PER YARD.  AN AREA 10 x 10 OR          3 x 33

INCHES CONVERSION CHART:

  • 324 sq ft – 1″ deep
  • 162 sq ft – 2″ deep
  • 108 sq ft – 3″ deep
  • 81 sq ft – 4″ deep
  • 65 sq ft – 5″ deep

LINEAR MEASURE:

  • 12 inches = 1 foot
  • 3 feet – 1 yard

CUBIC MEASURE:

  • 27 cu ft = 1 cubic yard
  • 1 cu ft = 7.5 gallons
  • 1728 cu inches = 1 cubic ft

SQUARE MEASURE:

  • 144 sq in = 1 sq ft

  • 9 sq ft – 1 sq yd

  • 43,560 sq ft = 1 acre

  • 4,840 sq yd = 1 acre

BOULDERS:

Size                      Coverage                                 Granite Boulders: ESTIMATE ONLY

4′-8″                     35-40 SF                                  24″ = approximately 500 lbs

8″ – 12″                23-30 SF                                  36″ = approximately 2000 lbs

12″ – 18″              12-15 SF                                   48″ = approximately 2 to 3 tons

24″ – 36″             4-6 SF                                        5′ = approximately 4 to 5 tons

 

AREA:  Note – all units must be the same for these forumlas to work.  In other words, all in fee or all in inches.

Circle                Area=diameter x diameter x .7854

Circle               Area= pi x radius x radius

Circle               Circumference = diameter of circle divided by .31831

Circle               Diameter=circumference x .31831

Cylinder         Volume = pi x radius x radius x height

Rectangle       Area = Width x Height

Square             Area = Side x Side

Triangle          Area = 1/2 Base x Height
